I am in the process of changing my insurance details to make it more affordable and it’s not finalized yet. I asked a customer service rep at my insurer’s office if I didn’t get the changes made yet can my teen still drive my vehicle until it’s finalized and she told me that as long as I’ve giving them permission to drive the vehicle and they don’t just "take" it then it’s like giving permission to any family member to drive your vehicle and they are covered? Is this true?

Yup.

We have GEICO right now and I’m deciding whether or not to send my daughter to a Driver’s Ed program or just do the Parent Taught program. I was wondering if the parent taught program still counted for the discounts offered by GEICO but I can’t find it on their website. Can anyone help?

(I live in Texas, btw, if it matters…)

I don’t think so. I’m semi-sure that we have geico insurance and I had to do 8 hours of professional driving school to get a discount. This is in Kentucky where there are no requirements on driving school at all (well at the time…now they do), it’s just a straight written test, permit, come back in 6 months for a road test. But I had to be taught by an instructor at $60/hour to get a discount. Call up the local driving school and ask, because they were the ones that told my parents about what our insurance company required, so that they could fulfill all the requirements to get the discount. You really want to be sure you get the best discount you can too, even with mine my parents insurance almost doubled…yikes! haha.
